What belongs in the delivered cost
Add item cost, domestic delivery, purchasing or payment fees, international freight, optional packing and insurance, and any destination charges. Keep unknown amounts marked as unknown instead of entering zero. A quoted parcel price is not the same as the cost of buying and receiving the goods. Count a charge once: if it is already included in the quote, do not add it again.
Actual weight versus volumetric weight
Volumetric kg = length × width × height in centimetres ÷ the line’s divisor. For a 40 × 30 × 25 cm parcel, a divisor of 5,000 gives 6 kg. If actual weight is 3 kg and the line bills the higher value, start from 6 kg. This divisor is illustrative. Check whether your route uses dimensional pricing, its divisor and any rounding increment before relying on the result.
Read first-weight and additional-weight charges
Not every quote is a flat per-kg price. A line may charge a first-weight amount and additional increments. For an illustrative first 1 kg at USD 15 plus USD 5 per additional 0.5 kg, a 3 kg parcel costs USD 35 before extras. Use the full quoted freight subtotal in the calculator if the tariff is tiered; multiplying one headline rate can give the wrong total.
Compare packaging before consolidating
A smaller box can reduce volumetric weight, but removing protection can increase damage risk. Ask for final packed measurements after any change. Compare the complete price of one combined parcel against two parcels, including repeated base charges. Check eligibility again if batteries, fragile items or large boxes are involved. Consolidation is useful only when the resulting quote and protection suit the goods.
Save a comparable quote record
For every line, record destination, quote date, currency, actual and chargeable kg, dimensions, freight subtotal, included extras, transit scope, tracking and compensation terms. Use the Germany or France guide for destination-specific checks. Requote after packing changes. If any cost is missing, describe the result as a partial estimate and resolve that gap before confirming payment.
